NBC cancels The New Normal
Aw, man.
NBC announced yesterday that it canceled The New Normal, Ryan Murphy’s one-season show about a gay couple preparing to have a baby through a surrogate. Happy Endings, an ABC show featuring a beloved gay character, was canceled as well:
On Happy Endings, an ensemble comedy about a group of Chicago friends, the nonstereotypical gay character Max, played by Adam Pally, became a breakout favorite. ABC today announced that the show, which has been on for three seasons, will not be renewed. The USA Network, however, has expressed interest in it and likely will begin serious negotiations about picking it up now that the cancellation is official, according to Deadline Hollywood.
New Normal wasn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, and Ryan Murphy still has a lot to learn about writing LGBT characters well. But nonetheless, I liked this show and appreciated the work it tried to do, and I’ll miss it.
SO HELP ME GOD I WILL CUT ALL THE BITCHES IF USA DOESN’T PICK UP HAPPY ENDINGS! HOW IT GOT CANCELED IN THE FIRST PLACE I DON’T EVEN KNOW!
